Fundraising season is on full swing during the fall months, the air is crisp and everyone’s ready to embrace the season. Fall is a great time for food, festivity, and people coming together with their family and friends. Here are some ideas on how nonprofits can maximize fall fundraising:
Few things bring people together like sports. Football season creates plenty of opportunity to get your fellow fans fundraising while doing something everyone enjoys. A great way to enhance a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign would be to host a viewing party using our Event Listings feature. Hosts can provide the food and drinks while asking for a donation.
Also, millions of people participate in fantasy football leagues. Players can pledge a percentage of earnings to charity or perhaps donate registration fees.
Everyone loves showing off their costumes, so why not give them a reason to go all out this year. Nonprofits can host their very own virtual photo contest fundraiser. The key is to tie it in with the cause of the organization. For example, if you have an animal welfare organization, the contest can be for the cutest pet costume.
Photo contests are great for the organizations’ social media presence, cause awareness, and you can add an entry fee as a donation. Another option would be to add the photo contest element to an existing campaign in order to increase engagement and have a little (extra) fun this Halloween.
For nonprofits that have found success with runs and 5Ks, planning a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is a great idea. Turkey trots function just like a regular 5k but can generate a lot of support because people love to give back in any way they can on Thanksgiving Day. Fundraisers can even recruit friends and family that will be in town for the holidays to join their teams.
Another option is a “friendsgiving” campaign that can encourage supporters to host their own friendsgiving dinners and have all of their friends donate to their page. This is an easy and feel good way to get more people involved in fundraising. No Kid Hungry is a great example of a nonprofit that runs a successful friendsgiving campaign.
If your organization hasn’t started thinking about a Giving Tuesday campaign yet, now is the time. Giving Tuesday takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and this year it will be on November 27. Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving powered by social media and collaboration.
People are ready to give back, and the best approach is to make sure that your nonprofit is ready to go. Whether you want to set up a campaign page two months out or simply have a Giving Tuesday donate button and link on your website/social media, this is an opportunity that any organization will not want to miss.
