Fundraising is serious business but campaigns don’t always have to be. The more unique, different or interesting the campaign the more attention it gets. This attention and awareness usually equates to more dollars raised. The recent #StrikeOutALS #Icebucketchallenge craze is a good example. Some figures estimate up to $4 million raised for ALS in just a matter of weeks.
With that in mind, we’d like highlight the most creative and successful campaigns in our: “Top 5 Wildest Nonprofit Fundraisers”. These amazing fundraisers raise a lot of money for great causes while having a TON of fun doing it. All totals are annual 2013 domestic estimates. Cupid’s Undie Run– $1.3 million
Although it may seem like a Will Ferrell-esque stunt, the Cupid’s Undie Run is crazy serious about raising money for ending NF. Working in partnership with Children’s Tumor Foundation, participants raise money run in their undies, in the cold, for an amazing and deserving cause.
Over the Edge– $3.0 million
Rappelling down a building is usually something that only superheroes perform in blockbusters. Over the Edge makes it possible for everyone to be a superhero for a cause by going “Over the edge”. Safety is of the utmost priority, don’t worry.
Polar Bear Plunge– $20.0 million
Jumping into a freezing body of water never looked so good. This wacky event helps to raise money for Special Olympics and their mission to promote inclusion for individuals with special needs through the power of sports.
Movember– $22.5 million
An innovative and engaging social fundraiser, which motivates men to grow ridiculous moustaches while raising money to change the face of male cancer.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation– $34 million
Don’t worry your hair will grow back. Founded on the motto to “Conquer Childhood Cancers”, supporters raise money and shave their locks all in the name of cancer research. It’s fun, humbling and life changing.
