Two to three times a day I hear the same refrain from potential customers. It usually goes something like this, “I *hate* my current software provider but everyone in my organization is afraid to change platforms”. Now *hate* is a very strong word and I do not use it lightly but that IS the word used to describe the legacy nonprofit software providers.
In a time of lean methodology, consumerization of information technology and “software eating the world”, the inability for nonprofits to move past these inefficient and expensive providers (that are ultimately dragging their organization down) is heartbreaking. It does not have to be this way.
There is a whole ecosystem of resources and providers that can help your organization transition to more efficient, modern software. Below is a list sites that have white papers, webinars and videos on how to choose the best software for your organization:
NTEN – Membership organization of nonprofit professionals who put technology to use for their causes.
TechSoup – Connecting your nonprofit, charity, or public library with tech products and services, plus learning resources to make informed decisions about technology.
Idealware – Helping nonprofits make smart software decisions.
Tech Impact – Their mission is to ensure all nonprofits can use technology to better serve our world.
Cloud4Good – Works with nonprofit organizations and educational institutions to create and implement strategic solutions based on cloud technology.
