Nonprofit fundraising stack, Part 1: CRM

Many nonprofits attend NTEN NTC to learn more about new nonprofit technology that could be useful to their organization. When you are exploring the conference, a few of the most important things to consider in your fundraising technology search are integrations and flexibility of customization for the following items:

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Payment processors
  • Email marketing and automation
  • Content management system (CMS)

Of course, every organization has their own needs, but these are factors you should keep in mind while you are going down the exhibit hall at NTEN NTC.

CRM – the beating heart of your technology stack

When browsing different technology services, one of the most important parts of the nonprofit fundraising technology stack is the CRM. Since this is where all of your data lives, it is crucial that your new technology partners are able to integrate with whatever CRM your org is thinking of using or already use. You can think of your CRM as the core for all of your data, everything that you need to do with your data has to be able to go in and out of this system seamlessly.

Now you need to make sure your digital fundraising platform, payment processors, email marketing, and content management systems are able to integrate with your CRM. This will streamline all of your constituent data in one place. At NTEN NTC you will have the opportunity to browse various online fundraising platforms for your organizations, be sure to ask the following questions to get an in depth understanding of how each of them can be integrated and customized:

  • Does this technology integrate with the CRM I’m targeting so that I may import and export data the system?
  • How robust is this integration, will it only import basic information or does it have the ability to be customized?
  • Does the platform offer application programming interfaces (APIs)?
  • What other integrations does the platform offer?
