Shatterproof, which is, “a national organization committed to protecting our loved ones from addiction to illicit and prescription drugs, and alcohol, and ending the stigma and suffering of those affected by [addiction],” has launched a great campaign for the Thanksgiving holiday as part of its Shatterproof FIT initiative. With the “Turkey Trot Takeover,” Shatterproof is asking its supporters to use their participation in annual “Turkey Trots” – where people go out on short runs nationwide on Thanksgiving morning – to fundraise for Shatterproof.
The nonprofit’s overall goal for this campaign is $20,000, and they already are a quarter of the way there with a number of days to go and dozens of fundraisers participating. This is a great example of providing a digital fundraising platform for supporters to leverage events and activities that they are already likely involved in. These types of “do-it-yourself” or “independent fundraising events” (DIY / IFE) are sharply gaining in popularity, as forward-looking nonprofits adapt to changing habits, including anywhere and anytime online access and the desire to have a positive societal impact on supporters’ own terms.
